The Chevening Scholarship 2027–28 application window has closed. The published cycle ran from August to October 2026, with the closing date of October 6. Applicants who submitted on time now move into eligibility checks and assessment. If you missed the window, prepare for a future announced cycle; this page does not claim that late applications are accepted.

What is Chevening?

Chevening is a UK government programme supporting eligible international students for one-year master’s study. Scholarship applications and Chevening Fellowship applications are different routes. The official 2027–28 opening announcement describes the scholarship cycle and financial support.

Study destination United Kingdom
Level Eligible one-year master’s programme
Cycle 2027–28; new applications closed
Selection stage Eligibility checks and reading assessments
Study begins September/October 2027

What support is available?

The scholarship offers full financial support for the eligible study route, with the specific terms set out in the award. Do not treat an old fixed sterling figure as a universal payment for every country and course. Review your country award conditions and eventual offer for covered costs and restrictions.

Keep personal budgeting separate from a competitive application. Until an award is confirmed, tuition and living-cost support should remain potential funding. If considering an accompanying family member, check that person’s costs separately rather than assuming the student’s award covers them.

Current eligibility requirements

The official eligibility guidance requires citizenship of an eligible country or territory, qualifying education and work experience, and a commitment to return to the country of award for at least two years after the scholarship. Current residency and exclusion rules also apply.

Applicants must select three eligible UK university courses and eventually obtain at least one unconditional offer by the relevant deadline. Citizenship of an eligible country alone is not enough: check the complete country, residence, degree and employment conditions.

The guidance excludes applicants resident in the UK at application, subject to its stated territory exception, and includes restrictions concerning British citizenship and specified programme-related employment or family connections. Read the precise rules for your situation rather than using an old “all nationalities” description.

Post-degree work experience matters

The current work-experience page requires at least 2,800 hours acquired after completion of the undergraduate degree, over at least two years. For this cycle it states undergraduate completion by October 2024.

Qualifying experience can include full-time or part-time employment, voluntary work and paid or unpaid internships. Record each period accurately. Do not include pre-degree experience merely because it counted under an older rule, or count overlapping hours twice.

For your own record, list dates, hours per week, organisation and duties. Check the arithmetic against realistic working weeks. A concise account of responsibility and impact also helps you prepare for an interview without overstating your experience.

Selection and university offer deadlines

The official timeline places reading assessments between mid-October 2026 and January 2027, interview shortlisting in mid-February, and interviews in March–April. Results begin from mid-June.

The deadline to receive and submit at least one unconditional UK university offer is July 8, 2027, at 17:00 BST. University admissions deadlines may be earlier. Keep each course’s requirements and outstanding conditions in a separate checklist.

Documents and next steps for applicants

Interview candidates must upload required documents at least seven working days before their interview. The timeline identifies photo ID, undergraduate degree certificate or diploma, and reference letters. Follow the actual invitation for your submission instructions.

Check the email used for the application, including spam folders. Prepare original documents and any required translations in advance. If your course offer remains conditional, ask the university which condition is outstanding and when it can be completed.
